1 2011-2012 Boxing Card Guide I am pleased to offer the revised and expanded seventh edition of my book “America’s Great Boxing Cards”, a price guide, encyclopedia and checklist of American boxing cards. You may purchase the book direct from the publisher at Lulu.com:
The latest edition picks up where the other editions stopped. It contains all of the data that made the prior editions so useful, plus a ton of new research. I added many sets of vintage boxing cards to the listings, further refined the existing listings and checklists, expanded the Canadian and Latin American issues sections (including some newly-discovered sets), added new materials to the exhibit card sections, expanded the section on Panini boxing cards, added modern autographed insert cards, and started coverage of related collectibles like pins, photographs, tickets, credentials, publicity materials, and so on.
2 Boxing Card Guide 6th Edition You may purchase the book direct from the publisher at Lulu.com:
4 1940s Exhibit Sugar Ray Robinson no HT side view This is a rare variation on the normal version of this card. It normally has his home town printed. I had a heck of a time adding this one to my set. $100.00.
5 1940s Exhibit Joe Louis no HT Another brutally tough 'no Home Town' variation and the key card in the series, I've only seen a handful of these. No creases, clean back, front as shown. $150.00
6 Jim Corbett Xzalia trade card SGC 50 The most popularly collected of Gentleman Jim's 1890s premiums. $125
7 Exhibit Mix and Brown A very rare card of boxer Newsboy Brown training movie star Tom Mix. I have seen this card only two times. $200.00
***Congratulations to Newsboy Brown, 2012 IBHOF enshrinee***
8 1923 Exhibit Dempsey From the moderately difficult 1923 set. Clean postcard with bio and record back. $35.00
9 1923 Exhibit Tendler Great southpaw contender who nearly took the crown from Benny Leonard. clean postcard with bio and record back. $20.00
10 Henry Armstrong The first great pound for pound champ who held three titles at once. No hometown variation. $20.00
11 1930s Exhibit Buddy Baer no headgear variation This is a rare pose also--seen it a few times only. $50.00
12 1948 Leaf Uncut Sheet This rare uncut partial sheet contains 42 of the 49 cards in the set (well, technically it also has about 40% of each of the top row's 7 cards too). Condition is as shown, with surface wrinkles and creases (affecting the majority of the individual designs), a few minor stains, a fold near the center, peripheral tears, and either dirt or printing haze on the blank back. Still displays nicely and oh so rare to find. Gray back stock. $900.00
Someone asked if it would make sense to cut down the cards to try and slide them past a grader. Hardly, as they are blank backed. Bssides, cutting down a rare sheet to yield common cards would be like trying to melt down a rare gold coin for the bullion. I would not warrant that any effort to cut down the sheet would get you anything from graders.
