 Welcome to the Atencio Kennels website! We are located in a small town in beautiful Northern Utah, near the Idaho border. I began breeding Rat Terriers in 2005, and changed my focus to the Decker Bloodline Rat Terriers in 2008. In 2009 I changed my kennel name from “Blazing Sun Kennel” to “Atencio Kennels” to honor my family name - I am a second generation dog breeder. My father, a hunter and houndsman, has been breeding top quality hunting Plott and English Coon Hounds for over 45 years... I am extremely proud to be carrying on that tradition! I have a small breeding program, dedicated to producing only a few outstanding quality litters each year. My goal is to have dogs that are all-around fine examples of the breed. I will be forever striving for that perfect balance of health, beauty, correct structure, good temperament, and hunting ability. Not all dogs will make the cut -- Our dogs must prove that they have some merit in order to be considered for breeding purposes.
 Our dogs are shown in UKC conformation events, and are also used for hunting coons, flushing rabbits, ratting, etc. Hunting was one of the main purposes that this breed was developed for, and it is extremely important to me that we retain that hunting ability in our breeding program. I am extremely proud of the fact that these dogs can go from the show ring to the field, and vice verca. - Proving beyond any doubt that these tenacious little terriers truly can DO IT ALL! Producing healthy and genetically sound dogs is another very important part of my breeding program. Rat Terriers, including the Decker Bloodline dogs, tend to be a relatively healthy breed overall, but there are some health issues that exist in the breed that should be screened for - Our adult dogs will have OFA health clearances for congenital cardiac defects, patellar luxation, hip dysplasia/degenerative joint disease, LCP, and elbow dysplasia; all of which will be done at the appropriate ages for testing. We have also recently started screening for PLL (Primary Lens Luxation), a genetic eye problem common in terrier breeds, that can lead to glaucoma and blindness. Doing my best to keep my lines clean and free from genetic defects is a top priority, as it should be with any ethical breeder.
 On occasion, I will have puppies available for sale. We will offer some of our best quality puppies for sale as Hunting Prospects, Show/Breeding Prospects, or Performance Prospects - Pet homes are always welcome as well! Every puppy will come with a health record, registration papers, and a health guarantee. My puppies will come fully vaccinated, parasite-free, and micro-chipped. All dogs are DNA profiled through UKC prior to breeding, for the protection of our buyers and the integrity of our breeding program.
Dogs and Puppies sold as PETS/COMPANIONS will be sold on spay/neuter contracts OR be spayed/neutered by my vet before going to their new homes, no exceptions!
