American Meadow Rat Terriers

Welcome to American Meadow Rat Terriers.  I live in Northern Indiana on 2.93 acres.  One acre of which is woods.  It is also a fun place for my babies to work their brains till they are pooped (which is rare).  My babies have an acre and a half to run to their hearts content.  I raise STANDARD VARIETY Rat Terriers.  I have no Teddy Roosevelt Terriers, or Toy Rat Terriers.

I am currently working on OFA certifications, as soon as I can find a vet that believes in breeding.  I strive for the best in health & temprement without lacking in bone structure or standard.  I use only the standards set forth by UKC in the breeding of my babies.  As a responsible breeder I have a strong sense of commitment toward all Rat Terriers that I produce.  Once puppies leave my home, they are dependent on their new families for a lifetime of love and care.  The greatest gift that I can ever hope to give them is choosing that family for them.  For this reason I require an application be filled out and returned in addition to an in-person visit or a telephone interview before a deposit will be accepted.  Deposits are applied toward the purchase price and are non-refundable unless a puppy is not available.

All pups come with a written health gurantee, first set of shots, toy that they have played with while in my care, pedigree, list of what they will need, certificate with pups first picture on it, spay/neuter contract (for pups going to "Pet Homes") & registration papers.  Pups do not leave my home till they are 13 weeks of age after I have made my picks.  I have no more than two litters a year.  All pups are pre-spolied under foot, as well as all parents.  They are shown all floor types, other animals including cats, and many humans.  They are all given a massage, and feet and ears played with daily from birth till they leave my home.  The only time that my babies are confined is while I am at work in crates.  I do not have any kennel dogs, not that this is bad, I just choose not to do so.

This breed is not for everyone DO YOUR HOMEWORK(as with any other breed that you would like to own) talk to other owners of this breed before you buy.  Make adoption your first option.  There are many Rat Terriers out there in shelters that need homes too!  Once you get one you will be hooked, just ask any of us.  We are addicted to the Rat Terrier breed. Laughing

I have recieved my babies from the following breeders listed below.  Click on their names to go to their websites.

Sherri & Guy Chatteron (NC)

Sheree Huff (TN)

Reserving a Puppy
1. Reserving a Puppy  (April 22, 2008)

When inquiring about a puppy please give me your name, phone number, email address and the state you live in.

Tell me about the environment the pup will be going into, children, pets, apartment or house, own, rent, inside or outside dog, fenced yard, breeding, show or pet!

A $100.00 non refundable deposit is required to reserve a pup and will not be taken until the pups are born. This is payable by check or money order. The pup will then be put on hold for you as soon as the check/money order clears. The remainder is to be paid at the time of pickup by cash only. If the puppy is being shipped to you, I ask that the remainder for puppy + shipping ($300.00) is sent at least a week and a half before the puppy is to be shipped.

My price range is $200.00 - $400.00 depending on if the Mother and Father have been OFA certified.

When choosing your puppy you have the option of choosing from a photograph or coming in person when the pups are at least 7 weeks old. I do not show my pups until they are at least 7 weeks of age but will email or post photos of the litter weekly. If you like I will be more than happy to try and choose a puppy for you once I understand what type of temperament you are looking for and what personality you are seeking that would fit into your living situation. The pup needs to be at least 8 weeks of age for me to more completely understand his/her temperament. Please remember that training yourself is an extremely important part of a pup growing up to fit into your living situation.

I do have a waiting list, so if interested in a future breeding let me know and I will email you pictures within 4 days of the litters arrival.
