Calleigh and 2 other Rat Terriers were picked up by Animal Control following a 911 call reporting a dead person in a house.  The two girls were in awful condition, having been left outside without food or care for an extended period. Calleigh spent a week in intensive care at the vet's, trying to overcome a severe respiratory infection, pneumonia, and the debilitating effects of neglect, but unfortunately wasn't strong enough and died 11/10/08.

Little Archie was a stray who had been in a kill shelter for a week before New Rattitude pulled him out. He was at his foster home only 1 day before being admitted to the vet hospital...Archie died of obstruction or perforation of his intestines...he most likely got into something bad while trying to survive on the streets.  Archie loved to go for walks and he loved squeaky toys.  His favorite toy was a pink piggy.  He was surrounded by people who cared about him in his final couple of days. April 2009

Bugsy battled a horrible case of demodectic mange and was on the mend when he was inadvertantly exposed to a dog who had contracted distemper.  He fought the disease valiantly but in the end his immunosuppressed body was no match for the deadly disease.  He was a sweet dog who always seemed to be smiling and was up for any adventure that came his way.

Sweet Ellie went in for vetting, was found to have extensive cancer, and the vet recommended euthanasia on the spot as there was no way to treat Ellie at that point.  Thankfully, Ellie avoided suffering and now rests in peace. I lost my Jude March 1 2018 from severe panctratitis complicated by an undiagnosed diabetic problem. He came to us in July 2012 as a rescue and was such a joy. I am devastated from losing him. He was my little protector and followed me everywhere. I am lost without him. He lost his vision within a yearnof coming to us most likely aggravated by his abuse, a large dog choker chain wrapped twice around his neck and almost imbedded into hus skin. It took some time for his cough to become minimal and be abke to breathe with his mouth closed again. I pray he knew he was loved and cared for by his new family.

My brave, sweet Mickey died in my arms November 28, 2016. He was about 14, and we had been together almost 12 years. We went through a lot of life together! In January 16 he had to have his front left leg removed b/c of melanoma--it didn't stop him a bit! He loved running around our Vermont farm, poking around in the woods, and coming back to a nice treat. His cancer had returned, but he was still spunky and we thought we had a few more months. I was carrying him back inside on an icy night and he suddenly stroked out and died. He went his way--no fuss and on his own terms. I loved him so much and visit his grave in our woods.

Today, my 13 year old Rat Terrier had to be put down because he was in the final stages of congestive heart failure and in pain. I'd had him from the time he was 8 weeks old. He was my 11th birthday present. We had brought a towel to wrap him in (because we didn't know how he'd react being in a car for the first time) and all he wanted to do was look out the windows. He was my partner-in-crime, confidant, shoulder to cry on, best friend, protector, snuggle buddy and my baby. If anyone loved these dogs half as much as I loved Ozzie, then I know the suffering they have experienced from losing one of these wonderful animals.

I have had a few dogs in my life but none close to my beloved Lola. She was everything a dog could be. Smart, couragious, loving, caring, a dog of valor and compassion who nursed me back to health always by my side. To you Lola I will forever miss you and look for you around every corner. You were the sweetest thing to enter my life . After a courageous battle with cancer we had to let her sleep because it was the fair thing to do for her. I miss you.

It is so gratifying to know there are so many caring compassionate pet owners in this World.
Dogs may live short lives however they sure do a lot of living and loving during that time

I lost my little Lola at age 9.  She was in my parents care (never again), while I was trying to find us a home and was killed chasing a rabbit in front of the house.  I miss her every day and will always cherish our time together.  I know some day I will see her again and we will run like the wind, my little pearl.

Only time moves on to the next scene; memory remains part of the heart forever. For 80 years, I have owned at least one dog and when any of them, like a little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset, had to go to "doggie heaven", my heart was slow to mend.

Thank you for all that you do, including the love, care, and attention that you provide these babies who don't have the opportunity to find a permanent home.  We just lost our 16 1/2 year old Rat Terrier, Precious, a month ago. She was our baby.
