I wasn't at home, but on a trip in WI when she delivered on Thursday May 8th,08, so I have no clue in which order the puppies were born.We had a total of 10 puppies, but we did loose 1 weak chlt female puppy. Both parents are very well-mannered and gentle with children. They are blocky & stocky built.Daddy Bear is a wht & at 80 lbs and Good prelim hips, mommy Cocoa is a chlt & at 70 lbs and mild hips. We had her hips checked out about 1 wk after we purchased her, we then discovered on the X-rays that she had several bird shot BBs in her 1 rear leg, due to this she got a Mild rating. This is not a genetical issue;therefore, which she still could be bred. |

Green Acres' Earth Angel Liuka (October 23, 2006)Meet our Newest addition : Lily was born on Aug 9,06. She's WZ factored ( wht )...... Both or Lily's parents were both Blue/rust. Even though Lily was fostered/ kicked out by her own littermates and mother, she still grew into a beautiful little girl. She's got some grit and therefore her nickname as a foster was radar/earth angel. I give many many thanks to to her (foster mother) Kathleen,Laura George ( owner of the dam ) & Beth Short ( sire owner ). My husband & I at first wanted a red/rust in March '06, We had sent a deposit already, but no red females were born at that time. Then we seen a fawn/rust and decided we'd get one from the next available litter. Finally on Aug 9 we recieved e-mail/phone call, telling me that my baby was born.We were over joyed. Even though she's was a little behind in weight since birth, I didn't care, it made me love her even more. So at 6 wks old she weighs 3.7 lbs and now at 10 wks old she weighs almost 10 lbs. Only time will tell if she'll grow up to be our #1 guard dog/companion, as this is what we bought her for.
Now you can watch her grow up with us.....
Lily stands 23 in tall...and is about 40 lbs,but she's not done growing.. |

Our Labrador Retrievers (April 30, 2006)** History of the Labrador ** The original Labradors were all-purpose water dogs originating in Newfoundland, not Labrador. Not only did the breed not originate in Labrador, but it also was not originally called the Labrador Retriever. The Newfoundland of the early 1800s came in different sizes, one of which was the " Lessaer " or " St. John's " Newfoundland -- the earliest incarnation of the Labrador. These dogs-- medium - sized black dogs with close hair - not only retrieved game but also retrieved through icy water, and helped the fisherman in any task involving swimming. Eventually the breed died out in Newfoundland in large part because of the heavy dog tax. However, a core of Labradors had been taken to England in the early 1800s,and it is from these dogs, along with crosses to other retrievers, that the breed continued. It was also in England that the breed earned its reputation as an extraordinary retriever of upland game. Initially breeders favored blk labs and culled yellow, or chocolate colors. By the early 1900s, the other colors had come acceptable, although still not widely favored as the blacks. The breed was recognized by the English Kennel in 1903 and by the AKC in 1917.The popularity of this breed has grown steadily until it became the most popular breed in America in 1991 and remains so today. ** Temperament ** Few breeds so richly deserve their popularity as does the Labrador Retriever. When trained, it is obedient and amiable, and tolerates well the antics of children, other dogs, and other pets. It will be calm housedog, playful yard dog, and intense field dog, all on the same day. It is a powerful breed that loves to swim and retrieve. It needs daily physical and mental challenges to keep it occupied, however; a bored Lab can get into trouble. The Labrador's hunting instinct drives it to roam: breeders say " his home is under his hate." ** Upkeep ** Labradors are active and sociable dogs. They daily exercise, preferably in the form of retrieving swimming. Owners with swimming pools either must fence them out or be prepared to share the pool with a dog. The Lab coat sheds water easily. It needs weekly brushing to remove dead hair. Although Labs can live outdoors in temperate climates, they are much happier indoors with their family. ** Form & Function ** The Labrador is a moderate dog, not extreme in any way. It is square or slightly longer than tall, of fairly large bone and substance. It’s broad head and strong jaws should enable it to carry the largest game bird, such as a Canada geese. It’s heavy body set and strong legs enable it to swim and run powerfully. Its coat, which is short, straight, and dense with a soft undercoat, is weatherproof and helps to protect it from icy waters. The Lab is a working retriever and should possess style without clumsiness. Suggested tests : hip, elbow, eye & knee Life span : 10-12 yrs Weight : male 65-80 lbs & 22.5 -24.5 " in height females 55-70 lbs & 21.5 - 23.5 " in height

Our Shetland Sheepdogs (April 30, 2006)** History ** The ancestors of the Shetland Sheepdog were herding dogs of Scotland that also provided the root stock of the Collie and Border Collie. Some of these dogs were quite small, measuring only about 18 inches in height. The Shetland Sheepdog almost certainly is derived from these early Collie type dogs, which then further developed on the Shetland Islands. Some Iceland dogs may also have a played role, and perhaps even a black and tan King Charles Spaniel. The paucity of vegetation favored smaller livestock, and the animala need to herd them were proportionately smaller. In land with a few fences, and adept herder was essential to keep livestock away from cultivated land.As an all-around farm dog, they herded not only sheep but also ponies and chickens. In some remote areas,it was customary to keep all animals in the family's home building during the winter, and amiable hearding dog no doubt worked it way right into the family part of home. Because of their isolation from the rest of the world, the breed was able to breed true in the comparatively short time. The British naval fleet used to frequent the islands for maneuvers, and often bought puppies to take home to England.Early dogs were referred to as Toonie dogs ( Toon being the local Shetland word for farm ),but they were initially shown ( around 1906 ) as Shetland Collies. Collie fanciers objected to the name,so it was changed to the Shetland Sheepdog. The breed is far more often referred by it's nickname " Sheltie," however. In the early years in England breeders often discreetly crossed Shelties with rough - coated Collies in an attempt to improve on their Collie characteristics. This practice led to oversized Shelties, howver, and has long since stopped. Following the immense popularity of the Collie, the Sheltie became the answer to the family wanting a long striking pet of smaller size, and is one of the most popular breeds of the world. ** Temperament ** The Shetland Sheepdog is extremely bright, extremely sensitive, and extremely willing to please. This combination makes for a dog that is very obedient, quick to learn, and utterly devoted to its family. It is not only gentle, playful, amiable, and companionable, but also excellent with children, although it can nip at heels in play.It is reserved and often timid toward strangers. It barks a lot. Suggested tests:eye, hip, thyroid,DNA for vWD Life Span : 12-14 yrs Weight = varies, but more common around 20 lbs Height = varies, but more common around 13-16 " Colors : black, blue merle, and sable, marked with varying amounts of white and/or tan. *** NOTE *** May be senstive to ivermectin.Merles should not be bred to merles because homozygous merle is lethal or detrimental to health.
==================================== We only have 1 pair of Shelties and they are both bi blk. |
