IT'S A GIRL!!!
2. IT'S A GIRL!!!  (September 26, 2007)
We proudly introduce to the world, our daughter

Jeremy and I waited so long for this precious gift... And now, she's finally here!!!

Janelle was born on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 at 1:52 PM. She weighed 7 lbs 5 oz, and was 20 inches long. Because I developed a pretty severe case of hypertension (my blood pressure was consistently around 165/119), my doctor decided that the benefit of Janelle being born early would outwiegh the risks, and my labor was induced a week ahead of my due date.

We arrived at the hospital Wednesday morning around 6 AM. The nurses started me on the pitocin drip at around 8 AM, my labor only lasted about 6 hours -- Not bad for the first time!!! My labor was fairly easy with no complications -- Other than the fact that I waited too long before having the epidural. I was dealing with the pain OK without the epidural until I was dialated to about 9 centimeters, and started feeling the urge to push... Then I changed my mind about wanting a "natural" birth! I nearly missed the window of opportunity to have the epidural (luckily the anesthesiologist was nearby), and since I waited so long to get it, it didn't dull all of the pain -- I still felt my contractions (and everything else...) quite intensely! But, we made it through the pain OK, and everything turned out just fine!

Janelle and I got to come home from the hospital that Friday afternoon. She was jaundiced when we left the hospital, but he doctor wanted to see if it might clear up on it's own. The next day Janelle's bilirubin count was critically high, so we had to put her on UV lights for 4 days, and take her to the hospital every day for more blood tests. After the 4th day of being on the UV lights, we were instructed to take her off of them for a 24-hour "wait and see" to find out if her liver would work well enough to flush the excess cells from her body on it's own. When we took her to the hospital the next day, her bilirubin count was the lowest that it had ever been.

Jeremy, Janelle and I are all doing great. Jeremy is a very attentive husband and father, and has been such a great help with Janelle. He has been home "on vacation" for the past two weeks. We had one or two sleepless nights at the beginning, but for the most part Janelle sleeps almost all of the way through most nights. She hardly ever cries or fusses, and when she does, it generally doesn't last very long. Jeremy and I are really enjoying being parents so far. I think parenthood is much more hard work and stress than either of us imagined that it would be (especially for me, since I'm a nervous and worrysome person by nature anyways)... But, as all of you who are parents yourselves already know, it is SO worth it!

Thanks so much to everyone for sharing the overwhelming joy of this wonderful experience with us. It has truely been a blessing, a wonderful gift from God, to have this beautiful and special baby in our lives.
